Avril Lavigne has finally opened up about an illness which left her confined to bed for five months.
The singer began to feel ill last October, but doctors struggled to work out what was wrong.
When she was in Las Vegas to celebrate her 30th birthday, rather than being able to enjoy time away with her pals she could barely eat and just wanted to sleep.
It later transpired she was suffering from a severe case of Lyme disease. She thinks she was bitten by a tick sometime in the spring.
Speaking to PEOPLE, she revealed she had to spend five months in bed and thought she
was dying.
"I felt like I couldn't breathe, I couldn't talk and I couldn't move."
She added: "I thought I was dying."
The singer said her mum spent a lot of time looking after her when her husband Chad Kroeger was on tour.
It was so bad, she often couldn't shower for up to a week.
"There were definitely times I couldn't shower for a full week because I could barely stand," the 30-year-old explained, though now says she's on the mend and will be releasing a single this month.
